Hematin-binding Globulins in Pigs1

چکیده

WO cases of genetic linkage have been established in pigs. The C and J bloodgroup loci are closely linked (ANDRESEN and BAKER 1964; RASMUSEN 1965; ANDRESEN 1966a), and IMLAH (1965) has detected a close linkage between the H p locus for hematin-binding serum proteins (KRISTJANSSON 1961 ; HESSELHOLT 1963b) and the K blood-group locus. This report deals with additional information about the linkage between the H p and K loci. The possible effect of breed, sex, and X-irradiation on the recombination frequency is examined, and the data provide an efficient estimate of the recombination frequency.

Serum protein binding of myoglobin, hemoglobin and hematin.

ECENTLY much attention has been focused on the protein binding of hemoglobin. The hemoglobin binding proteins, collectively called haptoglobin, have been thoroughly studied by several workers.’5 Indentification of these substances has helped to clarify the concept of “renal threshold” for hemoglobin excretion.5’6’9 Subsequently, in an investigation of the difference in “renal threshold” of myog...

Quantitation of Serum Hemoglobin -binding Capacity Using Cellulose Acetate Membrane Electrophoresis.

I F NO INTRAVASCULAR liberation of intracellular hemoglobin occurs with the transfusion of thawed, recOllstituted frozen erythrocytes, the amount of free supernatant hemoglobin in units of frozen blood that may be infused without producing henioglobinuria is determined principally by the recipient’s plasma llenloglobin-billdillg capacity (1, 2). Oweii et al. (3) reported a method for quantitati...

Access to hematin: the basis of chloroquine resistance.

The saturable uptake of chloroquine by parasites of Plasmodium falciparum has been attributed to specific carrier-mediated transport of chloroquine. It is suggested that chloroquine is transported in exchange for protons by the parasite membrane Na+/H+ exchanger [J Biol Chem 272:2652-2658 (1997)]. Once inside the parasite, it is proposed that chloroquine inhibits the polymerization of hematin, ...

Dendrimeric Template of Plasmodium falciparum Histidine Rich Protein II Repeat Motifs Bearing Asp→Asn Mutation Exhibits Heme Binding and β-Hematin Formation

Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) employs a crucial PfHRPII catalyzed reaction that converts toxic heme into hemozoin. Understanding heme polymerization mechanism is the first step for rational design of new drugs, targeting this pathway. Heme binding and hemozoin formation have been ascribed to PfHRPII aspartate carboxylate-heme metal ionic interactions. To investigate, if this ionic interaction is i...

Binding of hematin by a new class of glutathione transferase from the blood-feeding parasitic nematode Haemonchus contortus.

The phase II detoxification system glutathione transferase (GST) is associated with the establishment of parasitic nematode infections within the gastrointestinal environment of the mammalian host. We report the functional analysis of a GST from an important worldwide parasitic nematode of small ruminants, Haemonchus contortus. This GST shows limited activity with a range of classical GST subst...
